Widows Orphans Needy (WONS)
I am Eunice Shakami, l am handicapped, l use a wheel and l am the founder of WONS Ministries International Orphanage situated in Chunga Township government farms on no. 2095m.
I also grew up as an orphan and l was taken care of and educated by the Catholic Franciscan Sisters in Luanshya at St Theresa’s Home for the handicapped children.
W stands for Widows, O stands for Orphans,N stands for Needy, and the Sick. The orphanage is registered with registrar of societies, Social welfare and Pacra as a Foundation as named WONS Foundation Initiative. We have been running the orphanage for 23 years now. We have no donors only get support from well wishers.
We have 50 children, some are double Orphans, some single and some vulnerable. We work with the police, Matero, Chunga and George, when the children are picked or reported to be abused by guardians they are taken to the police stations and the police reports to Social welfare and brings them to our orphanage.
We have also a community School where our children go to. It is from nursery to grade 7. Teachers work voluntarily without any pay. When the children pass to grade 8 they go to various government schools around Chunga Township or to other boarding schools.
When they complete grade 12, they go to various colleges and universities and they need sponsors to support them.
We have had some children who have completed school and courses at the colleges and some of them are working or doing some businesses.
Some of them we could not find sponsors help them get into colleges.
We have challenges in feeding, medical, colleges/universities sponsorship, daily upkeep etc
